Naval questions

Postby CPTANT » 09 Oct 2014, 14:01

Hello guys!

I recently started playing this game online and I have some questions regarding the naval aspect of the game:

is there a cost effective counter for the t3 seraphim sub-hunter?

Is the aeon experimental battleship ever worth building? It seems to be rather medicore in virtually everything compared to everything else for that cost.

Same for the atlantis, is it worth it purely for the combat effectiveness, or should you treat it as an aircraft carrier?

What is the best way to try to reclaim a sea presence when you are pushed out of the water completely, or what is the best way to stall any shore damage for as long as possible for when that is not possible?

The non-uef destroyers seem to be pretty effective against both submarines and surface targets, is there actually a reason to build t2 subs during the t2 naval phase?

Sbuhunters: yes
UEF: Atlantis (for torp range) protected by coopers & shieldboats, also battleships can groundfire them
CYBRAN: Barracudas&Destroyers win mass-wise as long as they dont get kited, also you can H.A.R.M.S. creep with SACUs
AEON: not sure to be honest, guess Tempest, T2 subs, destroyers, shields etc will work somehow
main point is: dont get kited the best thing about subhunters is their range

Aeon T4 Battleship:
It's the only big range "direct" fire unit the Aeon have, so yeah it's k, the problem is mostly that it is so big and gets hit by basicly everything
as for all experimental units a big + is that you can spend a lot of mass with relatively little buildpower (maybe after a naval fight with lots of reclaim)

Atlantis:
see above

If you are completely pushed out of the water you cant really reclaim it... that's kinda the point, as for all reclaim you can use factory atackmove to get some extra reclaimrange. Shields, T2 arties & TMD will keep the shore clean but you will have to spend alot of mass.

Submarines on T2 are a good way to counter frigatespam since destroyers would eventually get swarmed and killed. Submarines also are a attentionlightweight way to deal with navy if you dont really want to focus on it, but yes normally mixing both with a focus on destroyers is best.

Doesn't every destroyer (except UEF) win (masswise) vs t3 subhunter if it won't get kited with range? Also cooper wins mass for mass vs subhunter as well right? Mixing it with shields is a good way to be able to get in range of course.

As UEF if you are pushed out of the sea completely then to return I would do the following:

First attain air superiority.
Clear the area around your coast using gunships/torpedo bombers.
Build shore defences (sonar/torpedo launchers).
Build Shipyard.
Spam subs.

Torp bombers work well, as do aeon destroyers and uef coopers. Cybran t2 subs can also work.

Is the aeon experimental battleship ever worth building? It seems to be rather medicore in virtually everything compared to everything else for that cost. Same for the atlantis, is it worth it purely for the combat effectiveness, or should you treat it as an aircraft carrier?

Normal navy is usually better I think. The advantage of experimentals is that they build fast. In some cases the range on the aeon exp battleship cannon and on the atlantis torpedoes may be worth it. I don't think it's worth building an atlantis as an aircraft carrier. You're better off with air staging facilities.

What is the best way to try to reclaim a sea presence when you are pushed out of the water completely, or what is the best way to stall any shore damage for as long as possible for when that is not possible?

As cybran/uef you have great torp bombers that work even very close to the shore. As aeon/sera you should probably use hoverspam. Against cybran navy, and maybe against uef navy you can also build t3 gunships.

The non-uef destroyers seem to be pretty effective against both submarines and surface targets, is there actually a reason to build t2 subs during the t2 naval phase?

T2 subs, especially the cybran ones, are effective against sera t2 destroyers. Sheppard suggests that you mix subs with other navy. I disagree. The whole point of subs is to deny your enemy his surface dps. If you mix in other navy that surface dps just switches to other units, so you've accomplished nothing. If you do subs, you shouldn't mix it with surface navy, or you should keep that surface navy out of range (e.g. cruisers that are just present as anti air).
