BO's, Strategies & Factory queues

Postby manread » 12 Sep 2014, 15:29

In a few games, especially when things don't go according to plan, I sometimes really don't know what to do, so I've decided to make a list of build orders, strategies and factory queues to help my gameplay. This will be put on a notepad next to me while I play so I'm not looking for massive arguments on the finer points of gameplay and such, just general stuff.

This is what I've gotten so far, am I missing anything or can anything be refined?

Build Orders:
Standard 2nd land: LF, 2P, 2M, 3P, LF
Standard 2nd air: LF, 3P,2M, 4P, AF
1st bomber: P, AF,2 P
4 Land factories: LF, 3P, 2M, 3P, LF, 2P, 2LF, RECLAIM!!
3rd air: LF, 2P, 2M, 3P, LF, 3P, AF
HC 2nd land: LF, P, XM, ACU assist hydro, LF
HC 2nd air: LF, P, XM, ACU assist hydro, P, AF

Strategies:
Standard spam/tech/eco: Standard play
Gun Com: ACU gun upgrade + OC
Rambo Com: ACU gun + T2 + OC (+ Tac Pack/Shield)
Heavy air: 3-4 air factories + OC on com/Gun Com
Eco whore: defensive play, minimal raiding, balance with spam
TML snipe (com/eco): Tac pack/TML in strategic place
Strat snipe: Medium-heavy eco whore and early RAS/T3 PGen/X T2 PGen
PD creep: T2 engie/T2 upgrade on com and placement of pd towards enemy base
Engie drops: T1 transport + 6 engies dropped in strategic location (reclaim, enemy base, expansion, frontline)
Unit drops: T1 transport + X units dropped in strategic location (reclaim, enemy base, expansion, frontline)
Exp. Rush: Med eco whore plus defensive play, only viable with Cybran
Heavy navy: Multiple naval factories usually pushing frigates + mixed T2
Heavy navy small map: 1-2 naval factories with 1 pushing destroyers +/or cruisers
Com drop: T2 transport + Gun Com/ Rambo Com + Air control/Stealth

Factory Queues:
1st LF: 2x( 2Engie, Scout, Lab), 2x (2Engie, Scout, Tank), X Engie
1st LF: 2x( 2Engie, Scout, Lab), 2x (2Engie, Scout, Tank), X (Engie, 5Tank)
2nd LF: X (5Tank, Arty, Scout)
1st AF: Bomber, XEngie
2nd AF: X (Bomber, Scout, 5Inty, Bomber, Scout, 5Inty, Transport, Bomber, Scout, 5Inty)
LF Spam: X (5Tank, Arty, Scout)
AF Spam: X (Bomber, Inty) / (2Bomber, Inty) / (Bomber, 2Inty)
NF Spam: X (Frig, Sub) / (2Firg, Sub) / (Frig, 2Sub) / (Frig, Sub, Frig)
Aurora Counter: 2Tank, Arty, Scout / Bomber

Legend:
X = Variable/infinite
Tac pack = ACU TML
LF = Land factory
AF = Air factory
NF = Naval factory
P/PGen = Power generators
M = Mex
HC = Hydrocarbon

I don't think putting this on a notepad will help... rather than just a list of strategies, you need to know when to do what. That depends on the map and what your enemy is doing. Perhaps more important than knowing what to do, is the strength of your fundamentals. e.g. your early land/air raiding game, and not losing units, not losing time with your tanks & acu, taking map control when you are in a position to take it, etc.

Well when I was new to ladder and didn't know any proper BO's I took the time to watch one of the tutorial video's and write them down on a post it note. I referenced it every game until I learned the BO's off by heart and in turn this helped me win games and focus on other things. The fundamentals vary map by map and go from pretty good (for an 1100) to not that good (for an 1100). My logic on this is that if learning BO's helped me win so will learning strategies. On more than a few occasions I've remembered a particular strategy that would have worked well 5 mins after I lost the game.

I see what you're saying about map control and units and such and I may add that to the notes butas I stated at the start, there are times when I have no idea what to do, hence the notes in the first place.

my standart factory queue is like 3 engies, [mantis, engy, scout] * [number of expanding directions], couple engyes more for reclaim and base building, then mostly tanks and scouts, some times i just do [tank,scout],[tank,scout],[tank,scout].... or [tank scout arty engy] [tank scout arty engy] [tank scout arty engy] and only tanks in other factories, that allows me to get nice unit mix without useing repeat on factories

ofc that was for 5-10 km map land spam...
edit: also that is not very greedy version

@manread: the thing is though it very much depends on what your enemy is doing. It is more useful to remember a list of counters:

labs -> tanks
big t1 force -> t2 land
big t2 force -> t3 land
lost early air control -> t1/t2 flak
t2 pd -> mobile missile launchers
t2 air -> t2 land then t2 flak
gun acu -> own gun acu or t2 pd
submarines -> destroyers/torp boats
aurora -> air, t2 land, gun
standoff -> long range units, eco, tech upgrade
etc

For BO if the hydro is close, do something like 4 mex hydro, 3 pgen, air, land with the first 2 engies assisting.
