Higher APM is only useful if you know exactly what you want to do, but you can't click fast enough to execute everything of it. I think most people rather have the opposite problem, and they won't profit from higher APM, they rather need to use their current clicks more useful.
Many people also make many useless clicks, increasing their APM values (i.e. I often give 2-3 moveorders instead of just 1, increasing my APM without any real value from it), but their effective APM is actually lower.
How to improve it anyway:
hotkeys will improve your APM a lot if you don't use them already. I had about 40 apm too before I started using hotkeys, but that was more than enough to be among the best players in GPG, so it is not necessary to have more.
If you know what you want to do already before you actually have to do it, your APM will increase by itself. You are not limited by how fast you can click (unless you have parkinson's, or set your mouse speed on the lowest possible value), but by how fast you can plan your clicks.
