CPU Rating Issue?

Postby H2H_TechMonkey » 16 Jun 2014, 23:24

Hi all I have asked about this before, but got told it was just my type of CPU.

However I have since been asking around and checked with my brother who has the same CPU at a slower clock speed and his rating is half of mine.

My rating is regularly in high 570's and his in the 200 - 250.

I have Intel Core i5 @ 3Ghz, he has an i5 @ 2.8Ghz.

I dont honestly care about the rating, but I keep getting kicked before the game starts as they say my CPU is too high.

Bro's: http://imgur.com/oVvCkvm

Mine:
1 Processor(s) Installed.
[01]: Intel64 Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7 GenuineIntel ~3601 Mhz

Bro's

1 Processor(s) Installed.
[01]: Intel64 Family 6 Model 30 Stepping 5 GenuineIntel ~2808 Mhz

I dont have any AV or other processes running during game, so any idea why my rating is so high?

Assuming that you don't have something in the background eating your CPU time...

It could be a power saving setting. Have a look at http://www.faforever.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7294&p=72144&hilit=CPU+power+saving#p72144

There are also some power saving options in the BIOS, so you may want to check there as well.

If that doesn't help, get something that will allow you to watch to CPU clock speed and usage (most overclocking tools will do this), and make sure your CPU is actually running at the maximum frequency while the CPU test is running.

Instead of posting some yibberish model number you could actually hit windows + pause and just post the real name. Nobody can be bothered to look up a modelname that needs decrypting.

In my case: Intel Core i7 2860QM (<< not for playing FAF)

If you use a laptop make sure you don't run in power save. If you do it will probably run around 800 MHz - 1 GHz and that score is very applicable then.

Intel itself has the Turbo Boost Monitor that will show actual clock.

Does your Intel processor name end in a T?

If so its very good at powering down when not being fully used. I dont know if FAF can tell the difference. If it applies your power supply will also be designed for Haswell.

Run SuperPi 1m and 32m and report the times here. That should answer the question if your cpu is actually getting bad performance.

http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/36 ... -mod-v1-5/

EDIT: also run cpu-z and watch if the core clock is actually at 3.6Ghz

try opening up your pc and cleaning any dust out.
that makes it run much slower as it cant dissipate the heat.

or just make sure that your cpu is not too hot

in any case, cleaning your pc out every once in a while is not a bad idea :)

btw: my cpu score was ~470 before and ~230 after cleaning

hope this helps

First thing is to determine if your PC is actually slower in-game or if it just an issue with the displayed CPU score.

You say that you and your brother have about the same CPU but he has 1/2 the CPU score. So, find a long replay with lots of units (setons) and watch the replay at +10 speed. Watch the same replay on your brother's PC. Record the time of each.

If your PC and your brother's complete the replay in about the same time, then it is an anomaly with the calculated CPU score. If your brother's PC finishes much sooner, then you know your PC is actually slower and the displayed score is probably correct.

Also; you still need to post CPU names. Not that gibberish.
