Hardware and FA Version Q's

Postby Longshanks » 19 Feb 2014, 22:47

Hi All,

I used to play FA in the "old days" (circa '09) on a machine with an E8400 proc @3.6 and a GT9600 (512MB). I'm currently on a machine with no graphics card and a celeron G530 @2.4 (obviously I haven't played any games in a while). I've got a HD7770 coming in the post, but will the celeron prevent me from even playing 1v1? It should be better per clock cycle than the old E8400, but 2.4GHz is so slow?! I was also a bit worried about the pixel rate on the HD7770 as I'm now using a 1920x1200 monitor whereas I had only a 1600x900 monitor on the GT9600, could that cause problems too?

Also I've noticed that if I watch a replay through FAF (the celeron can kinda render the game on its own) my version is 3625. However if I open FA without going through FAF it reverts to 3599. Is this normal behaviour or do I need to reinstall/ update something?

Sorry if this has been asked a squillion times b4.

Cheers,

Ed (Longshanks)

Well for 1v1 it should be enough.. *thinks of his old 2,1ghz AMD* but i think if you join Setons games people will get pissed off^^

as for Version: FAF doesnt change your installed game version, it just hooks his own version like a mod, so if you start FA without FAF it's the normal install/GPGnet/steam version again.

I thought that might be the case with the version numbers.

I'm not a big fan of huge, grindy 4v4 games n e way so I guess i'll be OK.

If you want to start FA with the newest FAF patch, just use ForgedAlliance.exe at C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin
