Micro Spider?

Postby Dragonfire » 27 Jan 2014, 03:17

Hi,

how can I micro a MonkeyLord?

For example: I want to shoot a commander, out of range ...
If I use the move command the turret need some time to turn around,
because the laser is focus something in range ...

Two times this was the reason why a commander survies ...

Any tipps/tricks?

If you're trying to kill a commander use the advantage of stealth. If you can't be sure you'll kill the com (by walking into good range) then just don't try, that's a bad decision, not bad micro :)
I'm watching you!

That's a good question,

If you tell the spider to attack the com he will move into range and fire the lazer. However, you want to keep moving the spider towards the com so as not to allow it to escape, if you move though; your spider might choose to attack something else, losing you precious seconds of DPS while the lazer turret is repositioning.

Would be nice if the priority markers some people talked about earlier came into play; you could tell the SPIDER to focus purely on the com and you just have to micro it into range.

That is the point ...
Maybe "Fire on Hold" or fast move and fire commands sovle the problem.

http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9wPj8RtQcAGX_x3iJ0gVow priority targets

but now there are no way of doing that and not stoping your unit from walking, and even then it may not work
same for ML and ACU

The only way to do it with standard game mechanics is the use the natural firing prioirites of the main weapon. Main cannons will generally target units which require minimal slew angles. Hence if the turret is aimed at the 4 O'clock position it will continue to pick off units in that general direction.

The solution is to move within range and then target the ACU. Once the turret is pointed in the ACU's general direction issue another move command.

You should also note that the effective turret turn rate is the sum of the unit turn rate and turret slew rate. Thus you will aquire targets more quickly if you turn the unit into the shot, and more slowly if you turn away. This is especially important with things like ACU micro. Because, if you force the turret to turn against body (or The ACU's torso to turn against the legs) precious seconds of firing time can be wasted.

This concept is relevant with the Monkeylord as well. By issuing move commands which force the unit to turn you can effectively "steer" the laser onto the target. While moving at the same time.
