Faction-Play: Discussion

Postby Nihkaeda07 » 12 Dec 2013, 20:54

( Is this sort of topic appropriate for this area of the forum? My intentions are for people starting out to get this info and anyone as clueless as I am : D...)

(**DISCLAIMER**: I am still considered to be very Noobular, and my opinions and/or views about the game may be warped because of this unfortunate fact.**)

Hello!

This thread, I hope, will be a sort-of discussion or info 'panel' on the Factions from the community of FAF.

First Idea: I'm not sure what makes me think this, but it feels as if the factions for FA are separated by level-of-difficulty-to-play.

I like to play Cybran because of the back-story and they have awesome looking units ( which are easily distinguishable, unlike OTHER factions' units IMO). I understand that Cybran are based around stealth, accuracy/splash damage, raiding, ... And I dunno what else : /. I really like the faction, but I find it difficult to play ( Maybe it's just because I'm a noob, not enough experience ). I know the function, upgrades, and usage of each unit in the Cybran arsenal, but I just continue to have trouble playing them.

I look at the other factions, and I see the UEF is Turtle-like, Aeon has the aggressive specialist units with added unit mobility, and the Seraphim looks like an aggressive turtle with a select few powerful units ( That friggin' Sub Hunter...).
It looks to me like there is a learning curve one must go through, playing and learning the turtle factions before the more aggressive factions.
I dunno!

This is looking more like a rant X D!

But hey:
What's are the differences between the factions?
Which is your favorite faction?
Is a faction harder to play over the other to you?

Thank you for participating! : D!

Thats not so fair statement. Aeon can be best on t1 because of microed auroras; cybrans - because of good raiding potential from mantis; UEF - because of striker's health. But new players don't micro too much and auroras die, thats why UEF are recomended for those. I remember ZeP's statistic which showed that then higher rating, then more people play aeon and less UEF.

On t2 it's fair to say that UEF and cybran have more advantage. Ilshavoh and obsidian are very good units, but they are not good against hoplite or mongoose. Pilar seems to be the best t2 land unit by efficientcy/mass. Rhino is also good even though it is weaker than obsidian it has more flexebility: more speed, higher rate of fire, small overkill.

On t3-t4 stage main advantage is in UEF hangs. Persivals and ravagers are really strong. Cybrans have more options: bricks, spyderbots, megaliths; but overall they aren't that good because bricks are worse than persivals, spyderbot doesn't worths its price and mega is expensive and there isn't shields for them, while stealth doesn't help enough at this stage. Though aeon and seraphim has sniperbots which are really good but not used too often.

This is only about land and not all. In air and naval balance is different, but the most remarkable ones are: aeon have best air, but not so good navy; cybrans are really bad at t3-t4 stages, but have good t2 navy(though stealth on air units is very good); Seraphim and UEF have not so good t2 air, but best t3 navy.

***added***

Playing air I like cybran or aeon. On land it depends of my opponent and my game plan, but i don't usually choose seraphim. On navy I choose aeon against cybran/uef/seraphim or cybran/uef against aeon. If i wan't to do a battlecome i choose UEF/seraphim/aeon.

So it's fair to say that my favorite faction is aeon.

And i do apologise for the tonns of text.

An unmicro'd aurora can still go on land and water.

Which is really why it is best in faf; in nomads, the aurora is much less special since the nomads tank goes on water too.

@Nikhaeda

That question is one of the unsolved mysteries of modern science.

Jokes aside, it really is. I don't like working on assumptions but I assume you wanna know what the viable tactics are for Cybran, Aeon, UEF and Seraphim, there is no easy answer. Cause while Cybran has units that specialize in stealth, if you can't effectively swing them around you might just as well not have any stealth and even while playing Aeon, it is perfectly possible to sneak up to a Cybran player or anyone else. On the same note UEF are renowned for their direct fire front line units, but enough bricks can do the same trick.

What I can say, as a Cybran player myself, is that combined arms is a Cybran thing, you can go pure land spam, but you have to spam. But throw in an air factory to multiply your results.

I can't say about other faction, cause UEF are damned capitalist that enslave my people, Aeon's are sexually repressed religious Zealots and the Seraphim stink.
