real newbie right here

Postby Areas » 08 Aug 2013, 19:33

So I've kind of recently come to play Forged Alliance after playing the first Sup Com a while back, and am having a few problems... After watching casts and such on youtube (making me feel soooooo noobish) I tried experimenting with builds and kind of like the first, second land, third air start up (at least that way I can have some air). I always seem to crash my economy doing this and am struggling to reclaim enough stuff in the area, like other players seem to do meaning I can't get units out quickly enough :/ Am I just doing too much at once or am I missing something?? I also see people doing what looks like an attack move with the engineers, does that do auto matic reclaim of stuff in the area or am I completley imagining things? (not that I ever completley imagine things... hehe).

Anyway I know these are noob questions and problems, but I have to start somewhere :) if I can get some of this early stuff sorted then I might start playing some games with/ against you guys, if you'll have me :)

check out this topic:

Especially third part - 3. Learning SupCom, reaching an average skill level, where you can watch a video about reclaim.
You just make an Attack move with Alt+right click across area you wish to reclaim. Your engie will pick up all trees, rocks, wrecks etc.
However, it doesnt work if your mass bar is already full.

None of the links on the page you linked me too seem to open right now, I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks anyway :) just got a pretty good skirmish kicked off and did alright now I can use my engineers like the pros! still a bit of a bumpy start, but nothing a little practice can't sort out :)

the upper links are downloadlinks for fafreplays with important things mentioned in the chat, the lower links are links to written tutorials and the link at the very bottom is a link to youtube playlist with videos from multiple persons going about more or less all stuff you need to know in SupCom for an average level of play

rest is experience and not-panic'ing

Maybe one more little advice: dont waste your time with playing the ai... its a big difference to a 'normal' game. You will propably get your ass kicked in your first online games no matter how mutch you practised vs the ai in advance. The sooner you start to collect your first beatings the sooner it will be over and you can start enjoying the game. For good buildorders just watch for replays of high rated players and copy the first few mins.
