Transitioning from normal FA to FAF

Postby Ari » 03 Jun 2013, 20:27

Hey there, new user here :)

(warning, egoistic post about me and how I got here ahead, skip to the next paragraph if you wanna hear the real issue)
I played loads of supreme commander a couple of years ago and I absolutely loved the game, it's an amazing RTS few (if any) can match, unfortunately I switched my computer and just never installed it again, I instead decided to focus on my music things.. (my hobby and part time work has been scoring games for the last year or so). a couple of years later I searched for supcom on steam and to my surprise I found both and expansion and a supcom2 (which I didn't like too much but meh..), I quickly started playing FA again and I recently hit it into the youtube search and noticed loads of casts of FA on this thing called FAF.. and yeah that's pretty much it now I'm here!

Anyway to the real issue, I'm transitioning from FA to FAF and I've already noticed from the casts that there's a whole load of changes made to the game HQ factories ?? what..
If anyone (and I apologize if I haven't searched enough for anything to help me with the information) could do a quick run down on the major changes made to the game that would help me out a lot! :D

Much love and again, I apologize If I haven't put enough effort into searching this up!

Also, The Build Order (BO) is different now. The overcharge cannon requires more energy then is in natural storage, and factories no longer have internal energy storage. Which means, you need to build energy storage AND be floating energy to use the OC cannon.

There is a wider array of opening BO's avaliable in FAF, and when you watch pro replays, you will see a whole lot more. Such as these:

LF > P > P > M > M > P > P > M > M > LF
LF > M > M > P > P > M > P > Upgrade mex T2 (With the mex upgraded adjacent to 3 Pgens)
P > AF > P > P > M > M > P > P > M > M
LF > P > ACU walk (typical reclaim rush)
LF > P > P > M > M > M > M > P > LF > P > P > LF > P
LF > P > P > M > M > P > P > M > P > AF > P > P

Each of them have different pros and cons, and I can't say that I am really a master. But knowing when to use which BO's really helps. This is by no means an exhaustive list.

Also there are some other important game play aspects.

-The ML is weaker
-The Scathis has more range
-The CZAR crash will not kill an ACU outright
-T3 gunships move much more slowly, and Restorers cannot overpower ASF's quite so easily
-You need to build one pgen before the airfac for a bomber rush
-You need to build 2 pgens before the airfac for a jester rush
-Carriers have better AA capabilities
-T3 naval is now more compeditive for Ship to Ship
-The metagame for T3 air fights has shifted to micro
-An auto-give on death feature has been implemented for team games
-Killed team members will no longer have the fog of war removed
-ACU death nukes will do negligible damage to structures
-The score is no longer visible in game
