Could I have recovered in this game?

So I had a lovely game this evening. The chat was certainly a lot of fun, but beyond that...

At the start of the game I developed a power stall, and to fix it I kept my com at home. I think I doomed myself to lose at that moment... or did I?
What follows is 1 hour and 5 minutes of desperately struggling to survive, quite exhausting and frustrating.

Watching the replay I think I couldn't deal with T2 gunships because there was an enemy proxy base between me and my army, and after that I think I was doomed. Later on I used increasingly desperate tactics to hold on. Near the end I already had a laser on my com, and my plan was to get teleport and capture the islands one by one.


From those with more experience watching, I'd like to know how (or if) I could have gotten back into the game, given the bad start. - or if I had been better off with ctrl-K at the 10 minute mark.
