Meta is greek actually, it means "beyond" or "around". GW will be a game around a game, so a meta-game.
Poking a guy is not part of the game per-se, but you can do it to give you an advantage in it, so it's meta-game too.
Strategy is part of the game, so it's not.
What is called "mind game" is more tricky. Poker is often given as example for that, but for me it's part of the game. As long as you use something as a part of your strategy, it's hardly "around" or "beyond" it
Some people (and even wikipedia) define it as things you do that are not part of any written rule, but then anything you can do in a video-game is meta, so I don't agree with that.
To be on topic, try to put this in mind : Your goal is not to kill your enemy at all cost, your goal is to take the upper-hand and kill your enemy with it.
To put in FA terms : Try to set you as a goal to control one mex more than your enemy, and on top of it, try to control where the battle are so you can reclaim.
If you remember our little game, I think you though you had the upper-hand early on, while I was just trying to make the battle happen on my side, with a least similar mex control (I could have less as I had more wrecks) until I've got enough to control more map (because auroras are slower. The priority, for me, depend of your faction and your initial BO).
While you have a little more eco and control, the game is basically wins if you don't throw your units into defenses.
Sure the goal is to destroy the ACU, but destroying his base works too. It will annoy your enemy that you don't finish it, but it what you have to do : I've already lost games that were won on a "lucky" last minute veterancy or similar.
So, don't try to shorten your games.
