Hi,

I have just found out about FAF last week after deciding to give SC and FA a try. Was looking for a new game to play and i settled on this mostly out of nostalgia for Total Annihilation. I completed the first mission on FA last night and it took forever so I am a total newbie but I am keen (probably after playing the single player a bit more) to go multiplayer so if any other newbies want to join up and practice then let me know!

Regards,

Glad you're enjoying it. The game has a bit of a steep learning curve (tho better if you remember Total Annihilation) so don't worry too much about the slow start. I want to give a fair warning though, that playing the campaign does VERY little to prepare you for playing humans. Humans will set the pace as much higher and much more aggressive, so just be prepared when you jump into the FAF player vs player waters.

The good news is that playing against good human opponents, and then watching the replays to see what they did right/what you could do better, is the best way you can learn. :D

It's worth playing the original Supreme Commander campaigns to get a feel for the units. The Forged Alliance campaign throws you right in at the deep end so it's not ideal for learning the mechanics.

Once you have a hang of the units and playing the game try checking out the tutorial in my signature which gives a fair idea of efficient play particularly against human players.

Campain is worth playing it and you will learn something about the game, but nothing you couldnt learn more efficient in multiplayer

I think you underestimate how intense multiplayer is for a new player. Imagine playing a 5k 1v1 map without really knowing what you should build, and having 20 enemy tanks inside your base in under six minutes.

I don't think that's a conducive environment to learning the basics, that's an overwhelming beating that would leave you confused and with no desire to play again.

With the SupCom Vanilla campaign you get loads of opportunity to try out different unit combinations until you find what works, with little real threat of being rushed or sniped.

He's German, he loves efficiency and bluntness  I must admit, I find it kinda irritating that some of the pros disregard and disrespect the singleplayer aspect of the game. They miss out on the story and the background of the whole game when they do that.

I still don't agree. Multiplayer will help you learn the difference between a Lobo and a Fervor for example, but only if you have a basic understanding of what you can use a T1 artillery for in the first place.

Campaign mode lets you get an understanding of the foundations first, and I think that's very important.
