Question about Steam activation

Postby Ceci » 28 Jul 2019, 15:54

Hello!

I have a disk version of my FA game, but it's not on Steam, and I cannot add it to steam (only by adding i as a non-steam game, but I don't know if that will work)

Could I play FaF by adding it as a non-steam game without problem? Or I'll need to buy it in steam?

I wait your answers, and thanks!

You should have a cd-key. Then you go to the steam-ui in menu point Games -> Activate game on steam (or similar, I have a german steam). There you enter your CD-key and should get a steam license for it.

The key is saved in plain text in your registry.

To access it you can press Windows+R and enter regedit and hit enter.
You will get a prompt regarding admin rights -> click on yes and make sure you don't delete/edit stuff you don't know about or you may damage your system

Once you have the regedit window open hit CTRL+F and look for Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance until you find the KEY value
Double klick on it and you will see your retail dvd key

CD-key is only written to the registry (and accessed) during installation?
So if I don't have backups of my old registry, CD-keys aren't stored anywhere (except CD-cases)?

(My Forged Alliance files are from 2012, and current windows installation from 2015)
