Total UI reset

Happens when im watching replays or after playing sandbox, not sure exactly whats the source of the problem, but it persists.

All game settings are getting reset to the default. Default resolution, default-overly-loud music, all templates get erased, zoomed strategic icons get turned off, etc., etc.

Im so annoyed with this stuff im actually afraid to test a BOs in a sandbox now because when i enter the real game there's a chance ill need to spend 3 minutes tweaking the setting back and erased templates are making me rage.
Any help please?

Start the game, and make all your needed settings, gfx, sound lobby etc. Then quit the game.

go to:

Code: Select all

C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance\

and make a backup of the file:

Game.prefs

Now all your settings are stored inside your backuped file.
If you loose your settings again, just copy it back.

Maybe there is a file called "Game.prefs.bad".
Please post the file on pastebin.com.
Maybe we can see why your settings are corrupted in first place.

I am having the same error, whenever I try to play a ladder match.

Usually the game.prefs have changed to .bad - a friendly german user on the FAF Chat helped me restore it again.

Inside your .bad file, look for the line "Quality". Instead of Quality = '0', you should see something like Quality = 1#.$ . If you change it back to a correct value, you should be able to rename the .bad file and all your settings and templates should be restored.

Edit: Just looked at your pastebin - jupp, there it is:

" Quality = -1.#IND,"
should be
" Quality = '0',"

Remember to make a backup file in case, you make an error while changing the file. I lost my .bad file because I messed up somehow.

Having backups is good and renaming the line is a decent workaround, buts those are temporarial (how the hell you write that lol?) solutions at best.

If you are certain you are not going to make any other adjustments to your prefs (this includes turning on mods for continued use, etc) you CAN make your prefs read only,

This would mean everything would be kept the same for every game joined, including player colour, factions, and game settings

Personally i suggest not doing it, but you can try, see what works for you

I agree - I am staying away from ladder currently. Still better than to lose all the templates.
