Poor CPU rating (380+) on AMD FX-6300

Postby itsjacobyo » 25 Aug 2016, 03:07

Hi all, I've been joining lobbies today, and found that my CPU score is abysmal. First off, here's my computer specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
AMD FX-6300
GTX 650 ti
8 GB DDR3 RAM

So yeah. I tried opening up my PC and cleaning all the fans. Ran Forged Alliance by itself, nothing else open. Set its priority in processes to high, checked CPU temp, everything is good to go. What gives? Someone in one of the lobbies said he has the same CPU but his score was nowhere near that high. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe not the case; but you also need fast RAM.

Are your RAM's running in dual channel mode or only in single mode? (BIOS)
Has the RAM XMP-1600 Settings ? if yes, is it set ? (XMP=eXteme Memory Profile)
DDR3 should run with at least 800MHz. Are they ?

If you dont know how to gather those informations, you can use this Tool:
CPU-Z:
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
See Tab "Memory for Dual/single Channel and Tab "SPD" for RAM timings.

Hey man thanks for the reply. I got some screenshots of the CPU-Z info. I currently have 4 sticks of ram, 2GB each, which could be contributing to the problem? Here's the imgur album:

If you look at your MEMORY Tab, then you can see on the Top-Right corner, your RAMs are running in "Dual" Channel mode. Thats good.
And you can sse you DRAM Frequency on 666MHz, thats bad.

You have 2 different RAM modules:
In Slot#1 and Slot#2 are PC3-12800H with 933MHz if you use XMP-1866 profile. This RAM is fast.
In Slot# 3&4 are PC3-10700 with 666MHz. This is slow.

So your RAMS in Bank 3&4 only can run with 666 MHz, and your RAM's in bank 1&2 "could" run @ 933Mhz but are also running with 666MHz because of slow RAM in bank 3&4.

So remove the RAM from bank3&4 and look again at the Memory Tab of GPU-z.
You should see now 933MHz instead of 666MHz at DRAM Frequency. This will make your game 20-30% faster :)

Makes a lot of sense now, this is something I hadn't even considered until I talked to my friend a couple of days ago (older ram being a bottleneck). I wanna keep my rig at least 8GB so I sniped a good deal on some newer RAM (2x4GB) with speeds comparable to the sticks in slots 1and 2. I'll toss those in and hopefully be good to go.

Appreciate it man!

We have "Continentals" so moving shit around must be important.

Well...

The new ram came in. Tried every configuration I can think of, but it only runs in single channel. Did manage to knock the score down to the high 200s, which isn't great but it's a hell of a lot better!

It really is time to look at a whole PC overhaul though

If its not running i dual mode, maybe you choosed the wrong ram slots on your board.

if you used slot 1+2 then try slot 1+3. and leave slot 2 empty.

Mostly banked slots have the same color. (Or read the mainboard manual^^)

I have a CPU rating of 340. Kind of annoying that my machine, which competes with 2012 technology, is not enough to run this eight-year-old game that well with more than four players.

I blame the lack of multi-core support.

[Specs]
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3
CPU: AMD FX-8120 3.1gHz Octo-core
Main Drive: ADATA SX900 256GB SSD
RAM: ADATA XPG 8GB DDR3 (Dual-Channel)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST 2GB GDDR5

7.5 on the Windows Experience Index
