Why sometimes rank is written with grey numbers?

The rating system needs some time (a few games) to determine your "real" rating.
As long as you don't have enough games your rating will be displayed in a darker color so that people don't take that number too seriously.

Whiteness indicates the level of certainty in your score. So a grey 1200 is not the same as a white 1200 - because they grey player has played less games, and therefore, certainty is lower. It is basically a soft rank - and could mean anything.
