...and consider joining a FAF clan as that can be a good way to get regular help with your games & have a good bunch of people to play with.

I've played with a certain professional player before, and he said that beating an AI is the same as not playing the game at all. All of this seems to be very confusing for me.

That is true, because an AI will not react or adopt different strategies like a player will, an AI will just try to break your defences while a player might use the opportunity to eco up or just go around it

What should I do then? I've tried training, and all it is is people repeating the same things over. They also just correct me when they crush me in a game.

The best idea will be to watch your replays (when they are fixed) and see what you did wrong and what others did better then you

I assume you get beaten when playing ladder matches. So do I as you usually get matched up with players that are a lot better (and that's to be expected given my "skills"), and it isn't getting much better after 15 games or so. So most of the times I'm playing multiplayer games and I would advice you to do that as well, if the games are balanced chances are you will win every now and then, and that's important to keep the game fun. Then watch your replays, see what went wrong and improve next time. See what others do and if they are successful try to copy it. Learn and practice build orders, watch casts, check the FAF wiki, ask others to comment on your replays.
