Zero-K is a free open-source RTS on Spring Engine, originally start off as a fork (Complete Annihilation) of a fork (Balanced Annihilation) of a fork (Absolute Annihilation) of a balance mod (Uberhack) of Total Annihilation, which is the RTS game that Supreme Commander is based on, so it's no wonder you would see some similarity between Zero-K and SupCom.

But it's still quite a different game, Zero-K is usually played on a smaller scale, it has a bigger focus on physic based unit interactions, projectile dodging is much more common, and all units block friendly fires, but the gameplay isn't overly micro heavy since the game uses a lot of automations. Commander/ACU assassination is not the default victory condition in this game. The economy is simpler, and there is no equivalent of metal maker or moho mine, instead Zero-K uses a system called overdrive, which allow energy structures to boost metal production by connecting metal extractors with a energy grid. There is no tech levels, all structures are accessible to the player from the begining. The factories are ineffective as a build power source, so they are only built when the player needs more unit options, which make building a new factory equal to teching in Zero-K.

Some Zero-K casts by Shadowfury333 if you want a more detailed look of the game:

I'm not here to convert people, merely try to find some Greenlight supporters. Also getting people to know more games in the same family is not a bad thing for FA, it makes people stick to this subgenre much longer.

Hmm, Zero-K is made with free time on a engine that exist even before SupCom is announced, of course it won't look as good as FA, but a Starcraft 2 player might feel the same to FA too. You would miss a lot of great games if you think any graphic below the modern standards is unbearable.

i don't want to offend anyone, i really know how much work has probably gone into this, still it LOOKS like a cheap supcom ripoff, and i would have to have REALLY superior mechanics to be worth to be played (for me)

It's released (as Complete Annihilation) before SupCom, and feel less a ripoff of SupCom or TA than Warcraft feel like a Starcraft ripoff. I won't say the mechanics are superior, just great in a different way.

i played it, and i doubt this game have adjacency bonuses, ACU upgrades, and ghetto gunships
artyllery adjacency, does this game has shields?
SupCom also has great UI, that allows to cancel and move your orders on the fly, allows templates, split attack is also working even tho it is feature that i beleave we "stole" from Zero-k or other similar game
supcom feels much more smoove and in case of hotkeys as well =\

also i was frustrated by lobby that Zero-k players use, every game i played there were "chickens" on the map, and every player just eventually was loosing to them, no idea WTF they are doing there when i tryed to host standat game

Chickens were meelee mobs and i could not even use static defence against them, only kite with some ranged units, but other players just die, and chickens from whole map were attacking just me and i could not do anything xD

as i remember you host games and change map via commands in chat, like to change map you need to type: "map %mapname%" witch is not really cool

You can host games or change maps with the lobby's UI, there is a "open a new battle" button and a "maps" button, no need for commands in chat. But I agree the lobby isn't user friendly, the developers said they would put much more work into it once the game is greenlighted.

Chicken is a survival mode. For standard games perhaps you can try to join the "teams: all welcome!" autohost, which is limited to standard team games and almost always have some players.

As for the UI, I think the zooming in Zero-K isn't as fluent as in SupCom, beside that it generally has a more powerful UI, there are a lot of functions that you won't know unless you do some research. If you want to be able to edit your command queues, press F11 and enable the waypoint dragger.

The shields exist and are linkable in Zero-K, linked shields can recharge each other, also there is a unit that use shield energy as ammo.
Unit on sea transport can fire.
Commanders have upgrades, but the modules are not selectable in game, only in your account page.

There is a tutorial video for how to get the game started, which might be helpful.

Well maybe you can tell me why i want to play this game:

+ it's open source

- bad graphics
- smaler scale

So what are the other upsides for Zero-k? Somebody showed it to me at a lecture and i again wasnt really impressed to be honest.
