Win That War! a new retrofuturistic Sci-Fi RTS

Hi everyone.

My name (ok - my alias) is Yoon, and I am a member of an indie game studio named Insane Unity. We are currently developing an RTS game taking place in a retrofuristic universe: Win That War!

Maybe, by chance, some of you already know about us, thanks to the successful Greenlight campaign we organized in January.
For the others, I would like to shortly introduce Win That War!, as I believe you, fellow RTS aficionados, might feel at home playing this game:

UNIVERSE

Win That War! is a massive scale real-time strategy game, putting thousands of players at the heart of a single campaign of fierce galactic conquest. The heart of the Win That War! experience lies in a massively multiplayer online campaign, in which opposing factions wage merciless war to conquer territories on a planetary scale.

As an emissary of one of these three economical superpowers, the orders are pretty clear: Discover new planets, develop your arsenal and strive to be the best, extending the domination of your corporation.

  • 3 game modes: solo, multi (up to 9 players – LAN or online) and MMO campaign
  • RTS gameplay adapted to a persistent MMO world

ok so I looked at the videos on steam and what I saw was:

- UI very impractical, the circular build menu... errm...
- HP of units also in a circle around the icon...
- everything uses the same explosion, fx not diverse at all (ok, it's still in early stages)
- pathfinding not good at all, units clumping and bumping in each other
- NO STRATEGIC ZOOM

maybe you should have a look at supreme commander for an inspiration how the UI should be done and how important and nice strategic zoom is.

There is a strategic zoom. Check 2 minutes into the second vid.
I'm not sure it's hugely practical, since it wasn't shown, but it looked like you could give orders.

Hi Biass!
Thanks for asking, you made me notice there weren't any caption of our new UI on the Steam Page.
I took some screenshots for you, since the GUI you see in the gameplay video is actually the old one. Another gameplay video is coming very soon, including the new GUI.

Here is one example with most of the assets visible on it.

Ummmm that looks great. Just needs radar, navy, air, commanders, upgrades, experimentals and we are done

my thoughts:

ui feels inconsistent, some parts like zoom feature appear unfinished or underdeveloped
lacks depth which supcom players typically crave
art deco themed typefaces are not commonly used nowadays for a reason, they're illegible at a distance especially on small buttons

it's early days so all of those points are totally excusable (assuming they fix them)

what is nice is that there is a new, real, RTS ... with engineers and lab play etc

The strategic zoom and the scale looks great, are there going to be any equivalents of 20x20 maps tho?

The UI definitely needs to be simplified, something like supcom where move/assist/attack/repair/whatever appears in the bottom lefthand corner when you click on a unit, and the build tab for engineers.

I know it'll seem like we're trying to supcom-ify it but the mex+power system, 4 unique factions, reclaim, and tiers help contribute to great gameplay.
