I recently made a jump from kacktop (Geforce 555m) to rig (AMD Radeon r7 360) , of which is $120. If you're looking into budget gaming, the radeon gives you quite some bang for your buck.

1MByte, like you say you have, is way enough for FA. You should look if you can open your ports. Maybe sending everything over FA Proxy is your problem.
If you have one 1Mbit then it will get more difficult.

And back to the topic. HD4870... nearly 8 years old . I think I paid 200€ back then. But I am thinking about a new pc right now. So maybe it will be a GTX960 in the near future. Would probably be worth it in saved power alone .
