Paladin marks are in place to ensure there's a cost for the paladin if he publicly declares himself. Simply put, it allows a phantom to permanently take away the paladin's bonus (essentially making him a normal innocent). Paladin marks have no effect on other phantoms or regular innocents.

If you're a phantom, you may be given a paladin mark (depending on the game settings). The host has a variety of ways to control how many paladin marks are available. In most phantom games, only one phantom is given a paladin mark. If you are assigned a paladin mark, you will have the icon indicated below.

When you click that icon, the dialog below will open.

To use a mark, click the check box next to that player you believe is the paladin. Once the mass cost has been paid, the mark will be applied and a message will displayed indicating if the target was indeed the paladin.

The icon will disappear once you no longer have any marks remaining.

Usually, it's a good idea to mark the paladin, but not always. Factors such as the game position, your available mass, the paladin's skill, the paladin's location in relation to the other phantom, the other phantom's skill, and whether or not the other players suspect the paladin of being a phantom all come into play when determining how best to use a paladin mark.
