FA Forever works but vanilla Forged alliance doesn't?

This is my problem: when I try to run the vanilla Forged Alliance through its .exe file, it doens't work, no crash or anything like that, the Forged Alliance process even appears in the task manager, but the game never starts.
But when I host a game in the FA Forever version it starts up just fine. (But I can't select the Seraphim)

How can I make the vanilla version work?
I'm using windows 7 64 bit.
