replay please dont die...

Postby ToejamS » 14 Mar 2012, 19:53

As a self proclaimed voyeur of of faf, I really enjoy watching games if Im not playing. Lately the replays seem to be having bigger stalls and sometimes just breaking. I know you guys are busy and dont have much time, but if you could find your way of finding a better way or something of streaming replays, I would be your greatest fans.

Hmm it's not better, huh?

I had a lot less broken replays since 0.6.34x

Why don't you watch them through double clicking in the replays tab?!? (okay file naming sucks but you can rename them yourself, but preserve the extension)

That replays tab will become replay vault and manager in one eventually.

You can also associate faforever.exe with them and it will launch them if they are correctly named.

If you try to launch an automatically named FAF replay through extra, it says the name can be no more than 30 charaters. That's not a big problem though, it's possible to rename them.

What Toejams is refering to is about livereplay. If the game lasts longer than 15 minutes (but sometimes before), the replay will just freeze completely and you need to stop it and begin again to see it to the end. I tried to watch 30 mins replays like that and it's really not convenient. Some replays, even after 4 times, each time i used x10 speed to get to the point it ended before, and I still couldn't watch the end of the game, and after that, the game is over and you can't try anymore.

It's not a desynch, it's just a freeze.

That has no mod name in it, it's not an FAF replay thus.

(maybe I should change the local filenames to a different extension, like .fafreplay)

I have an idea though. I can make the replay launcher in FAF launch standard FA if it detects no mod in the filename.

Try the attached replay.

You can rename it any way you want as long as it ends in .faf.scfareplay, and it shouldn't desync if opened via faforever.exe

I think Toe is talking about live replays, wich just freeze very often latly. You can restart it and if you're lucky it won't freeze again, but often you're not.

Zep already explained about this problem.
livereplays freeze because we have significant raise in players, and livereplay server just can't cope with such large amount of data due to its bandwidth limitations (10 mbit for upload if I'm not mistaken)
