Hi all

Hopefully this isn't explained anywhere else, or at least this topic could give an overview.

Questions:

1. How can I start FAF (>=3603) manually without the Lobby? Is there a special exe?

2. Do I still need the \Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance\binFAF folder?

3. Should there be a C:\Program Files\FAForever or C:\ProgramData\FAForever directory and what are those?

Thanks for your anwers, I got kind of a knot in my head. A friend of mine wants to play FAF as well and somehow we can't get it to work. I think with these answers I ought to be able to debug the problem.

You are not supposed to do that. FAF is a MULTIPLAYER lobby.
Any manipulation outside the lobby is not supported. So, you will have to find it yourself (it's not difficult, it's where your replays and logs are :)

No, you can erase it, as well as the .faf in the gamedata folder.

The lobby itself is in Program Files.

The datas (patchs, mods, logs, map preview, replays,...) are in COMMON_APP (ProgramData).

No. Any operation outside the lobby shouldn't be done for making it work.
If it doesn't work, please tell him to report a bug so we can fix that.

Your friend can join faf with any irc client on www.faforever.com:8067. If he has any issues there will be someone that can help him or pm me when he gets online.

Hi. Any chance I get you to post a screen shot of your FA game data directory? It should be located at this file path:
Program Files/THQ/Gas Powered Games/Forged Alliance/gamedata

I'm almost COMPLETELY certain that you have some files in there, like mods, that are causing your game to not work.

We recently discovered that the Balance mod is causing these kind of crashes too.

Which balance mod?
I waited ten years for Supreme Commander (1997-2007)
and have not a single day felt disappointed with it!

How does handicap mod work / what does it look like on the filesystem?
I waited ten years for Supreme Commander (1997-2007)
