Cannot connect to games

Having difficulty connecting to games without setting DMZ mode on my router. Ports are forwarded correctly and the firewall rules are fine.

Here are two sets of logs (in FAFlogs.zip), DMZ* are logs during DMZ mode was running and PF* logs are from using port forwarding. PF* logs show the line "info: Can't add chat text -- no chat display" which are not present in the DMZ logs.

Using DMZ isn't the preferable solution as you can imagine.

If it works with DMZ but not without, you need to look at your port forwarding in detail again.

Is it definitely the right port and the right IP?

I've checked and checked again, the FAF lobby reports that it's using port 6112 and I've set the rule to forward both TCP and UDP on that port.

The PF logs show an outgoing connection to 91.229.20.50:30351 that doesn't appear on the DMZ logs as well as the above error message. I even tried adding that port to the forwarding rules but there's no improvement.

As well as the port forwarding rules I've tried: Firewall off, uPnP off/on, disabling all but the main adapter on the machine, hmm haven't tried without DHCP yet... nope no change.

That packet is really important, it's needed by the server to be sure that you are really using the port you said you will use (FA can switch to a random port for some reasons).

Why does it not appear on the DMZ log then?
Never mind it does.

It turns out my router was broken and was not forwarding ports correctly. I had a replacement fitted and now it works fine.
