Desync leading to split game outcome?

Postby atomcrusader » 24 Feb 2012, 23:33

Hi everyone,

Zed and I just played a game vs two Ai:Rush on Drake's Ravine.
Zed and I both have the retail FA version.

Throughout the game, there were desync messages popping up.
Then about 10 mins into the game, my version (aka universe) saw that
Zed stood still doing nothing. He soon got killed.

Zed's universe had me killed instead, then he got killed too.

I won the game in my universe, ALL THE WHILE maintaining real time chat
with Zed, commenting on how crazy this was.

The game was never reported by the server after both of us finished our respective
games, with Zed finishing ten minutes after me.

Has anyone come across this issue? :-/ What can I post for more info?

Thanks!

What is your base version of FA ? What is his base version ? (3599, 3603 or steam ?)

Only 3599 and superiors are supported by FA. 3596 (retail) to 3598 need to be patched to 3599, or that can lead, indeed, to these kind of desync.

Mine's patched to 3599. Not sure what Zed's is. Could this be the problem?
I myself have never come across this before. :")

Yes if you get a desync, the game outcomes can be extremely different on each machine. It's a butterfly effect thing, and the more time you spend desynced, the worse the differences get.

FAF shouldn't let you update and play if you don't have 3599, 3603' or Steam FA.
I waited ten years for Supreme Commander (1997-2007)
and have not a single day felt disappointed with it!

desync seems to be a growing problem. Small desyncs are ok, but hitting that ok button is a pain if it happens often. No cure for that?

If desyncs are recurring (more than one or two), the game is unrecoverable and, unfortunately, your best bet is to just give up and stop playing. Fortunately, games that desync do not impact rating.
