Offline/LAN Play

Postby FireBrd » 24 Feb 2012, 20:33

I feel like a tard asking this but I cannot for the life of me figure this out.
How can I get offline play w/ the 3610 patch?
From digging around on the forums it says to go to the 'C:\Program Files\THQ\GPG\Forged Alliance\binFAF' folder and just run the EXE from there. My problem is, I don't have that folder. I see the 'bin' folder but not a 'binFAF' nor a 'bin\FAF' folder even.
Any ideas?

This folder do not exist anymore.
You can find the .exe in (if I'm not wrong): C:/ProgramData/FAForever/bin.

Do not use the shortcut, only the ForgedAlliance.exe file.

Maybe the FAF installer should offer to make a desktop/start menu shortcut to this item, called "FAF - offline" or something?

Problem is that it's created after the installer (on first game/livereplay/...). But it's doable I think.

I was planning to put in a menu item 'Launch FA Offline' but you'd still have to be online to really get FA/FAF updated. I also wanted to do something to live replays so they automatically open with FAF (probably making every FAF replay be called SCFAFreplay)

We really want to encourage players to experience online play with real human teammates and opponents, though. This is a multiplayer lobby... :|
I waited ten years for Supreme Commander (1997-2007)
and have not a single day felt disappointed with it!

Encourage, dont force.
(or make annoyingly inconvenient.)

Well, then no icons. Find the exe yourself :)

Hi,

I just wanted to put in my thoughts on this. Me and the friends i play with need an offline play button. The issue is that we have two people in one house playing with 3 people in other houses. FA can't handle this sort of connection unless we all use hamachi and then use the in game multiplayer/lan button to start a game.

Right now i have to explain to each person where to find the exe, how to make sure they've all gotten the updates needed and then maybe we can join together and not have desync errors.

Could there please be some kind of button in FA Forever Lobby to facilitate this?

the fix should be to route correctly FA so it works on the internet. Can you post logs on all the 3 pcs after an unsuccessful attempt ?
