What causes that (harmless!) Steam Desync?

Postby thygrrr » 21 Feb 2012, 17:42

Does anyone here have a theory what might cause the Steam FA vs. Retail FA single beat desync at the start of games?

It's harmless, but it'd be cool if it went away.

Compare all the game files between two installs and or check the log?

Yuo should do a comparison between steam and 3603 install.

Then a file comparison between 3603 and our .faf.

It's should be a file missing.

Obviously you should be comparing steam and non-steam installs of FA, including the individuals files in the .scd directories. Then see if any of those files listed is not in faforever.faf.

No, I'll attempt something to disprove that tonight.

I'll run FAsteam with an FAFbin directory that's from FAretail.

If I still get desyncs, then the issue is indeed in gamedata. If I don't, the issue is in the binaries (much easier to fix)

you can run fa and tell it to do a log to show on beat 1 where in fa that its pointing to.

effect is 1kb bigger in steam,
lua is 17kb bigger
units is 1k smaller

in steams bin folder is has a few extra files,

d3dx9_31.dll
game.dat
gpgcore.dll
gpggal.dll
LuaPlus_1081.dll
MohoEngine.dll
SHW32d.DLL
SupremeCommander.exe < steam fa exe

the rest look normal
