FA.exe vs. SC.exe

Which of these exes does the lobby use when starting games?

If it uses both, please let me know specifically what purpose each has, I need to know in order to create a macro profile.

Thanks!

The project is called FAF, shorthand for FA Forever, shorthand for Forged Alliance Forever. ;)

That means it's about Forged Alliance versus "Vanilla" Supreme Commander, and hence runs ForgedAlliance.exe. Some Steam versions of Forged Alliance seem to be launched via a SupremeCommander.exe ... this is not used by FA Forever.

An important detail is that it patches and fixes some things about ForgedAlliance.exe, so FAF creates a special folder where it places the modified files (instead of, you know, screwing with your actual game files).

Windows 7 (and most likely, Vista)
The lobby uses C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin\ForgedAlliance.exe
(under the hood it's actually %COMMON_APPDATA%\FAForever\bin\ForgedAlliance.exe)

Windows XP
The lobby uses C:\<your system's name for "Documents and Settings">\All Users\FAForever\bin\ForgedAlliance.exe
(under the hood it's the same %COMMON_APPDATA%\FAForever\bin\ForgedAlliance.exe)
On English PCs, the localized name is "Documents and Settings", on German PCs, it's "Dokumente und Einstellungen", etc. Some users even change the name of that Folder.

We may move this to Common Program Files, Roaming Appdata, Local Appdata or individual User Profiles eventually, but the change will be transparent.

I waited ten years for Supreme Commander (1997-2007)
and have not a single day felt disappointed with it!

ForgedAlliance.exe is the only thing launched by FAF.
