Black screen, only cursor, someone needs to pin a solution

This seems to be a common problem. I try starting a game and all that shows up is a black screen and the cursor. Alt-f4 gives me the "do you want to quit" dialogue. As far as I can tell from reading posts, the problem seems to be caused by Sorian AI and Steam FA, or something like that. Perhaps someone could pin a solution to this at the top of the board?

It's caused by Sorian AI. No other known reason.

It's one thing knowing that the problem's caused by Sorian, but I still don't know what the solution is supposed to be.

but I hadn't installed it in the first place! Unless you mean to delete it from the FAF install? Or are bits remaining from the pre-3611 install?

There is no, I repeat, NO trace of sorian in my FA install.

What should I do now?

cleared all of my game data, deleted faforever.faf from the steam fa gamedata folder, reupdated, and now it works. hm.

Just ran into someone with the same problem online. Told him to use the Report a Bug feature and post here. He doesn't have Sorian AI, just a Steam install.
