Firewall issue (I think)

Postby david.vanisacker » 12 Feb 2012, 14:35

Hey, i'm new here and i'm having some issues getting into the lobby.

I'm a student and so i'm living in a universitary residence. Theres some kind of firewall that protects network of the residence but it also causes problems for joining online games. I'd like to know if their are some ports that need to be opened (usually its the problem) or something like that. (In that case i just have to ask to the guy managing the network).

Hope i can get to play FA again !

EDIT : Forgot to describe the problem lol :
When i try to join the lobby, i see a sreen (UEF,Cybran,Aeon..) and then i immediatly have an error saying : Connection refused by the peer, cannot connect to the central server

the normal port that fa uses is 6112 its also in the prefs~game port on faf.

But if there are others that play fa on that lan you will need a different port number.

as for that faf server can't be reach does it happen all the time i am sure that faf uses port 80 to talk but pilot will need to confirm this aswell

An outgoing program doesn't have a particular port. It use the first one it can find.

The ports you want to reach are 7001 and 8001.

I think that port is already open (i can play wc3 and starcraft2 online and i think its the same port).
What is weird is i can't even connect to the lobby, while other players having problems just can't connct to games.

Btw, thanks for reply ;)

EDIT : Ok, thanks Pilot. I will try that.

Connections to 8001 and 7001 are TCP.

Hey again,

I'm now connected to the lobby (gratz, ist's awesome). Therefore i use Frozenway, some software, thatl allows you to play through a firewoll. Problems is you can't actually choose the ports that need to be changed

Therefore i changed the port setting to TCP 80 which should be open. still i can't play. I get nil pings everytime (only host is green). Is it possible that Frozenway opens the port you need at the start of the gmae ?

Does anyone know how to solve that problem ?
Thanks,

you need to port forward the 6112 UDP to your ip address

You also need port 6667 for IRC, and there's a bug in the lobby that if it can't get the IRC connection, it will crash at startup.

You kind of need IRC to use the lobby, though. (considering making that optional... fixing the silly crash is a priority in that regard)
I waited ten years for Supreme Commander (1997-2007)
and have not a single day felt disappointed with it!

Hey again, thanks for replying

The problem is that i cannot forward ports since i do not have a router (i'm behind a firewall in a universitary residency).
So i use a sofware called Frozenway that sends information via port 80 to an external server which converts it and forward it back to the appropriate ports (it says its as if all the ports were open) or something like that.

There has been some improvement and i was able to play some games without any problems (exept a desync at the start)
but still have nills with 1/2 or 1/3 players. When i start with GPGnet, its usually works better (relogging does help sometimes) but i still have nilsI
