<1000 rated tournament

Postby Antoninus » 15 Jan 2012, 21:41

Hello everyone, perhaps after the IMBA Cup there could be a <1000 rated tournament for newbies to play and have some fun. Get casting going and everything so they can go back and see where they could improve. I'd be happy to help organize this but I am completely clueless as to how to do it ---- same goes for casting.

This isn't my original idea, I just thought I'd test the waters and see what the response is to it.

PS - Responses better be positive or I will hit your commander's face into Uber's mercies :)))

Just looking at the global leaderboards right now, you are rated 1302 and would be ineligible for the tourny.

That said, it seems like 1000 or less would include over half the played on the global leaderboard, but it's hard to say how many active players are in that group, or how many of them are willing to play in tournies (a lot of players only play with their friends vs AI). At a glance, it looks like you could up the restriction to 1400 and still keep out all the really good players.

Just for info, a average player, after 4+ games, should be around 1500-1400. That's how the system is designed.

(That's how you can tell that there is a LOT of new players on FAF :)

that may be if everything would work as expected. But I know a some average players, and they are around 1100 and they stay there. 1400 is quite good, while >1600 is pro

If the average level is quite low (lot of new players), and the highest level is quite high (it's the case), then mid-level is lower than excepted.

But your starting level is 1500, like GPGNET (it's 0 because of your deviation = the system is not sure you deserve that yet).

1) I wasn't planing to participate in the tournament because of my massive 1300 skillz.
2) In my experience, if you are rated 1500 then you are a very formidable player. Being able to get there in 5 games seems a little too ambitious, especially if you are a team game player like me and many games are decided by action on another part of the battlefield.
3) You raise a good point; that 1v1 rating and custom game ratings are not the same. If I were to organize a newbie tournament I assumed it would be based on the custom game rating but then the tournament would be 1v1....hmmm.
