FAF Map Vault

Postby AwarE » 31 Dec 2011, 23:36

There seems to be very little info or support for the FAF vault.

Should we be uploading custom maps in *.000# or zip or RaR format?

When I uploaded some of my maps it uploads to 80% then freezes
It does not say ‘successful upload’ but the map appears in the vault.
There is no counter displaying # of downloads, so you don’t know if your map can be downloaded ok.

I did not have any problem with the first 3 maps I uploaded so they should be ok. Can someone tell me if ‘GiveAdog Isle’ and ‘Highground’ maps can be downloaded and work ok.

I note that the map description now comes from the scenario file, not the GpG type download description. Also you can’t search by map creator.

Thanks

All the map info isgotten from the scenario.lua, where the description is. And there is no such field like map author.
In GPG map author is the one who uploaded iirc, and if it could work there, in FAF it would be a complete nonsense. That's why FAF doesn't provide such info.

Download counter is a planned feature that comes with the new map vault.

Ok thanks for that... I'll use scenario for description... can anyone answer my other questions?

The FAF wiki does not tell you how to upload to the vault.

Should the map be uploaded to the GpGnet vault first, and then the official version uploaded to FAF vault?
Is there any file type preferred... RAR, Zip or *.v000# ?
Can unofficial maps be uploaded to FAF vault?
Why does the uploaded sometime get to 80% and lock up... yet map seems to get to the vault?
Do my maps download from FAF vault ok?

thanks guys

To my knowledge you just click that "Upload" button and select a map from your maps folder. No need to pack them or do anything else. Simple. That's how I do it.

It is not a file extension, it is a part of map's folder name which tells you a version.

No. Those two are not connected in any ways.

of course

The server converts all uploads to .zip when uploads are complete.
