Problem linking to steam, please help [solved]

I have not been able to link my account to steam. I believe I have followed all the correct steps. When pressing the link to steam account button Norton tries to block me, but I tell it not to. I'm then taken to the steam webpage, but I'm not given any sort of confirmation or error or message of any kind. It just opens the steam web page like nothings happened.

It's possible I have linked my game to faforever when I originally bought the game, but if that is the case I don't remember what my profile would have been.

Me and a friend did all of this simultaneously and he didn't encounter any problems.

After sleeping on the problem I tried disabeling "Norton safe web" as a Chrome extension. After that it worked right away.
