Can't find an answer..."Uncaught Exception!"(Traceback)

Postby Kyonkun87 » 12 Jul 2017, 02:49

Been trying to figure this out for hours now and was looking through the forums and I can't find anything related. It only happens when I go to play coop. I've deleted/ Uninstalled everything and reinstalled and still the same thing. Before this I installed the last update and everything was fine for that night. After that session I turned my computer off and went to sleep, went to work the next morning, came home and here I am. So the computer has not been touched.

If anybody can help me I will be very much Grateful because I am at a loss now.

This is a permissions problem, it should be fixed by running the client as admin and as a user again. Alternatively you can try deleting the ProgramData/FAForever directory - the client should just redownload the data.

(BTW, we're seeing issues like that fairly regularily - there must be something wrong with the permission fixup code. Is giving each user a separate folder for game data really such a bad idea?)

Alternatively, if you know what you're doing, you can set the owner of all files in ProgramData/FAForever to your current user.

Thats the thing. I guess I should have explained what I did so far.

I have deleted the folder in Program Data and redownloaded it. I have made the changes to the security/permissions(everyone has full control). Did the administrator change back and forth and it still did it. Even reinstalled all of FAF.

(I am typing all of this while I am working on this).

Its updating now! It works again. I have no idea what happened but I have a guess. When all that was happening windows updated and needed to restart(I didn't restart, because I wanted to play before I had to sleep for work). After that I couldnt access FAF, before this I updated FAF and the .EXE was gone. Now it works though, its updating. Maybe it had something to do with windows update? because I woke today(7/12/17) and restarted the computer and now it works. I even tried it before restarting just to see if it was fixed by shutting down and powering on, but nope.

Also I did the search to find something that matched my problem and those are what I got. I didn't recognise anything in there that was related.

Thank you everyone for responding and the help! I know it just fixed its elf. But the fact you guys respond was plenty of help for me.

Thank you!
