No sound sometimes [SOLVED]

Hi All,

I have a weird problem tonight. I had no sound, but not all the time, and not all the sounds were missing. Sometimes no music, no effects nothing, then music but no effects, then effects but without ping sounds, then music but no effects, etc. Last time i played on the 3rd of december and had no issues. Any ide what can be the problem?

Restart pc, this is a known bug and no fix for it.

I ran into the same problem recently, a few weeks after seeing it happen in several JaggedAppliance casts. This FAF forum thread resolved the problem for me, by disabling/enabling onboard sound in the BIOS: viewtopic.php?p=126814

This requires two reboots, and is supposed to re-initialize DirectSound. The original poster of the solution suspects a relation with windows media player. I can add to that that I never use WMP, but did launch it by accident not a long time (days) before the FAF sound bug happened to me (also for the first time ever, after ~1000 games). If the fix works for you, but the problem occurs again and you use WMP, consider trying VLC or Winamp for a while.

Thanks for the quick help, i'll check it next time i play. Restart will solve it probably as i turn of my pc when i finish playing
I don't use WMP, i use mpc so it is probably what Viba said. I didn't know this bug, i was lucky i avoided it for ~1000games.

My pleasure, let us know if a normal reboot works for you! In my case it was not sufficient to resolve the problem. But I don't understand DirectX sufficiently to come up with a simpler solution than the BIOS configuration. Perhaps a DirectSound issue could be resolved in software, so FAF could perform steps before launching FA to avoid the problem altogether.

Wow... I did a Google search because I just ran into this problem. Three years later, the fix of disabling and re-enabling the onboard audio worked!
