New update deleted my game.prefs

First host of 3658 rewrote my game.prefs. POOF! All gone.

I'm sorry to hear this, though I have no idea what could have caused it. I'll ask around, see if there's any ideas.

I was online in FAF when the patch hit. Joined a game, it updated, left that game lobby before starting, hosted a game, all was fine. Finished the game, hosted the next one and could instantly see something was wrong, as it loaded the lobby in 1024x800. Restarted FAF, hosted a game, same thing. Then I checked the game.prefs file and saw that it had been rewritten to some kind of default configuration. There was also a game.prefs.bad file in the folder(not my old game.prefs file, but another similar default config one.)

Copied one over from my laptop that wasn't outdated(too badly.) And after some frustation and a couple of more overwrites later I set it to read-only. Then it generated a game.prefs.new file that I used as a base and copied all of my setting, mods, templates and hotkeys into before renaming it to game.prefs, without read-only. Now it works again.

I can see this as a gamebreaking issue. Losing my hotkeys(all of them custom, even the control groups) would have probably deterred me from playing the game at all.

Maybe its not lost, only renamed.

look for a file named:

Game.prefs.bad

if its there, delete the new "Game.prefs" then rename "game.prefs.bad" to "game.prefs".

I lost my game.prefs 2-3 times last month or so. No idea where exactly the incompability lies and if it was cause by this patch / smth that was in the beta earlier. I was able to recover some tendious settings by just copying them by hand, like hotkeys etc.

I run fullscreen on lowest graphics, without external scripts.
Fully customised hotkeys as mentioned.

And the mods in common with Yorick are:

yeah, uveso there is.
I just ran a git diff between the files ( my current game.prefs and the old one) and found this line:

Quality = -1.#IND,

i guess it is this issue https://github.com/FAForever/fa/issues/1418 that broke my game.prefs

I think i did some games sandboxing/vs AI testing some stuff.

If you have this line as well in your game.prefs.bad you can maybe recover it if you delete that line.
