host connection time out constantly

Postby nuckyC » 26 Oct 2015, 00:48

This has been happening for ages but now its getting even more frequent.

I am able to sign in to the general lobby and then get into the game lobby, but within seconds or minutes if the game hasn't started I will get the host connection time out message.

When I press ok it takes me back to the general FAF lobby where I cant get into any games and it eventually comes up with the error "a tcp connection error has occurred".

I think I have tried to solve this many times:
1) port forwarding with all ports needed
2) tried with and without UnP
3) tried static IP

still getting the same errors regularly and need some help please.

Destroying my FAF love, any help would be much appreciated.

I have attached the forever.log, let me know if anything else is needed

cheers

Simple you don't have your ports forwarded... also your upnp option is not enabled on your router... it's impressive you can actualy play...

use this software to TEST your ports... test port 6112 TCP and UDP:

http://www.pcwintech.com/files/setups/s ... _setup.exe

once you get OPEN message on port 6112, you'll probably run fine ...

hope i've helped GL

hey thanks for reply,

I think I have always had the ports recommended on the wiki page open (ie 6112, 9103, 30350-51 even know them from memory lol).
I have used both the port forward program on the FAF wiki page and the program you recommended to check the ports and they say open.

not sure why it doesnt work when I try the online port checker (see below)

wondering if it has anything to do with the IP address displayed in the above picture as currently I have port forwarding setup to a static IP address which isnt the one displayed above. maybe I have it setup incorrectly?

here are my settings for the virgin firewall cant attach port forwarding pic as 3 is max (sorry for the info overkill)

I have also checked windows firewall and all programs related to FAF are open too. I also opened the above ports on windows firewall tonight just to see if it made a difference but still stuck with the errors.

also upnp is definitely enabled on the router.

I am bit stuck with this one, was reading an old post regarding such errors (sorry cant find website now) but they were suggesting it could also happen if a user is either banned or has problems with the account.
I dont think that's me but you never know.

would appreciate any other suggestions,

cheers

That IP is NOT the one you had forwarded... u have forwarded your
LOCAL IP... that one is you Internet IP... theres diference between internal network and external...

but your problem should be solved... do you still have conections time out?

It'd be helpful if you could show us what settings you have made with regards to forwarding ports on your NAT/router to your PC. Windows Firewall is fairly open on standard settings and should not be blocking incoming traffic like that if the relevant applications are whitelisted. If anything is blocking incoming network traffic related to FAF it's probably not on your PC. Leave the UPnP setting in FAF enabled, it certainly can't hurt. Try looking through any menus related to port forwarding on your router and see if there's a UPnP or "Universal Plug and Play" option to let devices on your network open ports to themselves. Enabling that would make it easier to reliably open the right ports, but it isn't necessary for it to work.

weird... u shouldn't have that issue anymore,
theres an entry on your log file:

2015-10-25 22:18:58,121 WARNING faf.modvault Couldn't find version for mod BrewLAN 0.4.4
2015-10-25 22:18:58,151 DEBUG faf.modvault getting installed mods. Count: 37

try deleting thouse 37 mods u have , specialy this brewLAN0.4.4 and test mods should be at:

Documents\My Games\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance\Mods

Also try to clean settings on FAF.

optinons > clear... > settings

FAF will quit, and you'll have to type your login again.
