Cannot run FA

Postby Shekelstein » 16 Oct 2014, 00:33

I've put my problem in a pastebin because the damn spambot doesn't allow me to post it. If anyone can post it in a quote message I'd be thankful: http://pastebin.com/qmH4wk0n

Quick googling reveals that that BEX error is a Buffer Overflow or Data Execution Prevention Error.

So either something went wrong with the patching, software prerequisites are not there or wrong, or something is locked down on your computer.

Have you tried reinstalling SupCom:FA without patching it afterwards?

EDIT: Possible causes can also be: Antivirus Sandbox, Data Execution Prevention enabled, video drivers, codec software installed, and more.

Found this about StackHash, maybe helps you:

Code: Select all
Here is a Windows 7 and Vista StackHash and Appcrash Fix

1. Click on the Start menu and then go to the Control Panel

2. Click on System Maintenance and then System

3. Choose Advanced System Settings.

4. Under System Properties, select Settings from the Performance section at the top.

5. Click on the Data Execution Prevention tab.

6. Select “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select”.

7. Find the executable file for the application that triggered the error. In Windows 7 and Vista, you can locate your GroupMail executable files (i.e. GMMailer.exe and GMEdit.exe) in C:\Program Files\GroupMail 5.

8. Select the application causing the error and click Open to add it to your DEP Exceptions list.

9. Click OK to save your new settings.

Shutting down DEP worked for the retail (pre-3599) version (it told me that wrong disc is in the drive, typical to SecuROM) but after patching it to 3599 it fucked it up again and got the APPCRASH error. The patch I'm using is the one from FileFront (3596 to 3599).

This is the new stuff that appears:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: ForgedAlliance.exe
Application Version: 1.5.0.1
Application Timestamp: 47bb5a87
Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll
Fault Module Version: 6.1.7600.16559
Fault Module Timestamp: 4ba9b29c
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 0002faf2
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

All I can say is that the cracked exe you are using probably does not work after getting patched.
Use an uncracked version, and try with that exe.

I haven't cracked the exe, I just installed it and then applied the patch. I've had the encounter before that if I cracked the exe before applying the 3599 patch the patcher would not detect the game version, thus not patch. It made no sense to crack it if the 3599 patch removes SecuROM

You said in the Pastebin:
The game is updated to 3599 and yes it is a cracked version because I got all the originals but my current laptop does not have a DVD drive.

Now you say:

If you have the original game, try downloading it from Steam. I believe that works.
Another thing to try is getting (or borrowing) a USB DVD drive.

Sorry for the misuse of words, I meant pirated in the first message.

There are no guarantees that Steam version would work too, plus I got $0 on my account and can't put any money until the end of the month.
DVD USB drives are out of question because no one I know has one and one costs about $80 where I live.

IIRC I was able to download a steam version using my game's box key. How, I don't remember right now.
