Lobby Minimap Issues

When I try to host a custom game the minimap in the lobby is broken. The map selected shows up, and the start locations as well, but I can't click on a location to occupy that slot, and the blue border doesn't show either. If I move around or add AIs the slots work fine but the minimap doesn't show anything but grey empty positions. This makes it difficult to set up a game since I can't tell where I'm going to start.

This happens in both FAF and in my install of FA, which makes me think it's an issue with my install, except that I've re-installed several times (both the game and FAF), verified (steam), and made sure to delete everything I could find related to FA each time.

please clarify:

* are you sure that is not because you selected the random spawn option?
* can you launch and play the game?

Well ****, I feel like an idiot now, although I could have sworn I changed that.
