Glitch with build templates at T3

Here is my issue... once I select a T3 unit, my build templates will not come up unless I first click t2 units, and then Build Templates again, often I have to do it a few times.

This is making it very hard to use templates at t3... anyone have any ideas?

No logs or anything because games are working fine, i am sure its a glitch in my game prefs file, but i was hoping maybe someone else has seen this and might know what to look for.

Just so that I have it clear what you problem is:

You select a T3 engineer and select the templates button to bring up your templates.
Inside the templates selection window, there are no templates present.
With your T3 engineer still selected you select the T2 category of units / structures.
You then go back to the templates selection, where you can now see all your build templates for all levels of tech.

Do I have the sequence of steps correct?

Some other questions:

Have you tried moving your game.prefs file and creating a new one using FA standalone (not FAF in single player)?

Do any of your build templates include upgraded buildings? Example: UEF T3 Shield Generator which can be built by a T3 engineer or be upgraded from a T2 Shield Generator.

Did you create the template or did you use the replicate to other factions feature of GAZ_UI? Example: You create with a UEF engineer a T1 mex surrounded by mass storage. With the template replicate feature, it automatically creates the same template for the other races using the respected structures.

Have you tried disabling all mods (UI included)? Be aware, that with some mods, you will need to run a game twice for it to be truly disabled. That is, you disable a UI mod, you start a game, you end that game. You then start another game and then end that game. Now the UI mod will be disabled. If you disable a UI mod, run a game and think, "oh guess that mod was not the problem", then re-enable it for your next game what actually happens is that UI mod was enabled for that entire period. Had to find that one out the hard way.

Workaround: use hotbuild hotkeys for template building :)

The Mak,

Almost, when I select a t3 engineer and select the templates button, nothing happens.

But if I first click t2 and then click templates, usually it works, and displays the saved templates.

When nothing happens, it acts like the template button was not pressed, and continues to display the t3 menu.


I may have stumbled onto a fix, and I am not 100% but i think i might know the cause now.

Like many players I joined a "Blackops" game, and while playing, to my horror while playing noticed that while in Black Ops I seem to have no templates at all, just blank list. So in haste, I created some in that mode.

When I went back to normal FAF game, I noticed I now had duplicate templates, and thats about the time I noticed the glitch.

Well I think its fixed, I've hosted a test game now and I dont seem to have the glitch anymore, but I dont know for sure till I manage to find a game sometime later tonight.

What I did was go through and delete most of my templates in normal FAF mode, and just recreate them. I am crossing my fingers...

My last resort is to just delete the gameprefs file and redo all my hotkeys and settings.

That is good that you found the issue. Just remeber that you do not have to delete your game.prefs file, you just need to move it to another location. After you create the new file you can grab the pieces that you want from the original file.

Sometimes it is good to redo templates because you have learned to optimize the build order. In my case I have learned to create basic componets that when mixed together results in some of my more complex templates. This way I can choose to have different engineers construct different parts in parallel instead of in series.

Typo91, I posted this in your General Discussions thread. I didn't realize you made a new post in Tech Support. I too had this problem, and the fix is in my post which I have pasted below.

I've noticed this when you activate the new option for combining templates across races. I had to delete a lot of my duplicate templates and then it started working again. I haven't figured out if this problem stemmed from the sheer number of templates I had, or because there were so many duplicates so my "fix" may be a work around. I hope this helps!
