What do I do? Every time I try to start automatch this comes up and takes forever and then fails:

maybe server is overloaded, that is why it takes long to download, however it does not explain why it fails to install (if it downloads succesfully ofc)

you need to enable logs and then replicate situation again and then post logs, and maybe some one can help

this would have belonged to the tech support forum, if you can't post there take a look at the nice huge red banner at the top of it

about your issue:
have you already tried hosting a standard game? (doubleclick Forged Alliance Forever in the mod list just below the ranked buttons), tell us if that works
if you have not done so yet, host a game, then retry playing ranked again

i think it downloaded fully this time. took a hour. earlier the past day or so it was giving errors before completion.
