CPU rating and CPU problems

Postby massivedynamic » 03 Jul 2014, 13:34

First i would like to say that i love FAF and every 1 supporting it and behind the making of that wonderful community.

Anyway im still new to the mode and community and starting playing actual games few days ago and in every game i join i get kicked cuz of my "high cpu rating" its around 930-1k and my cpu is i7-2670QM laptop (lenovo y570) with nividia GT 555m and 8gigs ram and i could witch to intel HD 4k graphic card.

i dont know what to do or from where to start and would love some tips ( i have all 4 cores running cuz i played with the binares couple of years ago) to make the turbo work , just in case any 1 wondering, and right now even with all 4 i get high cpu problems so was hoping i could fix that or some 1 tip me.

Thank you very much in advance for your help and good day.

First make sure that it's running at the actual speed it should, otherwise you get bad performance and a bad score. You can do this for example with CPU-Z or any other program that just measures the CPU speed. If the speed is the problem you need to make sure it won't throttle: clear dust from the laptop, make sure it's cool enough, disable any power saving settings (at least put it on 'Balanced' in Windows).

i have checked everything u said and still have the same problem.
i also checked my cpu speed using cpu-z and stress test and it got good results as the benchmark and still have the same problem...with high cpu rating.
i really cant join any game beacuz people kick me right away when they see it, and i dont know if it is my problem or the programs bugged.

Lets have a screen shot of your desktop and taskbar. (curious if we'll see a taskbar with 20 something icons)

I'd really start looking into background applications; based on your last post your cpu Turbos up to 3.1ghz and stays there, you have no cooling/heat issues? (you check your temps?)
I honestly don't know what "COULD" be creating such a hit to your CPU Rating, but I can only imagine something eating up all your processor performance... :S Maleware perhaps or perhaps just a lot of bloatware from the companies of everything you've ever bought and installed?
Also, just curious; what Operating System are you on?

Another thing to consider. I noticed when using my iGPU, my CPU runs like a pile of shit with this game. Perhaps FA is trying to run with your HD3000 already, and its buggering up your cpu score? (something to check at least)

I have a very similar laptop, a little more newer, y510p, but you shouldn't be having this performance issue at all,

at all times the temprature is roughly the same and if i detect any increase (easy to do since lenovo fins are pretty senstive) i can turn the fan under the laptop on.

also considering the OS its windows 7 x64 bit.
and those images taken with nvidia gt 555m OFF. i mainly use the intel HD GC to avoid over heating.
anyway the images are here first is the DP pic.

Nominal clockfrequency for a i72670 is 2.2 GHz without boost. Turboboost is 6/6/8/9, meaning max 2.8 GHz at four cores, max 3.1 GHz on 1 core.

Yours is running at 2.0; meaning it's running throttled.

If you have the Lenovo Power manager: check the advanced settings there. There is a lot to set, and you can pick and modify from a lot of powerplans. If you don't have the Lenovo Power Manager; see if it's applicable to your system and if so; install it. If you don't want to install it; check the Windows power options; deep in there are also options to set 'maximum CPU state'.

Since you mention overheating for avoiding using the nVidia card... it's probably an overall lousy system with bad cooling, like most laptops.

Please make sure the FA executable triggers the nVidia card. There is an option in the nVidia drivers to configure what stuff uses what GPU.

The best route of course remains buying a desktop: it's better for the lifespan of your laptop; it's better to play games on and it's cheaper for the same performance.

i have tried everything and set all options to boost my CPU to max from both LPM and the windows pwoer management and still both give the same results.

i have ran out of options and starting to think i might be internal problem.
and the Intel HD GC can run supreme commander very fine.

What BIOS are you running? Do you also, besides the Lenovo Power Manager, have the Lenovo Power Management Driver? They are two separate downloads on the driver matrix page. What BIOS do you have? Did you check the changelog of newer versions to see if there is anything changed in regard to CPU clock?

Let's assume it can (highly doubt it, but then I'm not running FA at such a low pixel count). It will however eat significantly from your memory bandwidth. The Intel GPU eats memory bandwidth from the normal system RAM; meaning the CPU has to make do with less. That's why you will see an increase in FA performance when using the nVidia card, because that one doesn't eat from the normal RAM; it has it's own.

Btw; do you have any question marks in the Device manager? Are you running 1x8GB DIMM or 2x4GB? The latter will be faster; it enables dual channel. Especially if you insist on using the Intel GPU.

Yeah, based on the pictures - There is definitely a power saving feature at work for you somewhere. I also, agree and give backing to everything E8400-CV has just said.

Can you go into Bios, and disable Intel Speedstep? What if any for options does your bios have?
Also, go download RealTemp and run it if you dont mind. From there we actually know what kind of temperatures you're seeing. Then we can find if the cause is Heat related. A cpu will decrease voltage/clockspeed when it gets too warm.
