Random crashes

Postby Kurlon » 01 Mar 2014, 21:07

I've been chasing this off and on, I randomly get punted to the debugger in FAF multiplayer games. I've beaten the snot out of this system trying to find any instability and so far no luck, it's just FAF that ticks it off. Replay (when they finish) will be 1917174. So far I've not found any rhyme or reason to this. When it does crash, the game screen freezes save for my mouse cursor. I get audibles as I mouse over where the buttons are but no on screen indications to match. If I alt-tab away I see the unhandled exception that's triggered the debugger.

This occurs even with a fresh vanilla install and is driving me nuts as I don't know how to avoid it and don't like trashing games I'm in. I'm open to any suggestions.

Hi, are you using dual monitors??

I don't really know what im talking about but until someone else helps you I noticed this

EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at address 0x0042323b
attempted to write memory at 0xc9c6c203

Is this a new system, have you ran memtest.

But I also seen this

info: Can't find texture "" -- trying fallback.
warning: GetResource: Invalid name ""

which has been listed in some other posts of crash's. Did you game desync like in this post http://faforever.com/forums/viewtopic.p ... 916b2ec80e , if so maybe you are not alone with this problem as you share some of same errors.

Im sure Zep will help you out soon, maybe check other forum posts to see if anyone has same issue. Also how long has this been happening??

I am using dual monitors, is that a known issue?

I've tested the ram via a few different methods including memtest, no faults that I can find.

Well if you have 2nd video adaptor enabled, ie. playing with map on both screens then yes.

Please see this thread> viewtopic.php?p=20931

I can't run game using both monitors. I tried everything to get working but I would almost always get crash with error. It seems worse with mods, as when I quit using mods exspecially ui mods I stopped getting crash's with error reports. However I still get the occasional graphical lockup but with no crash and no errors. I would just have to quit process. I assume that this is a driver issue, but I really do not know.

There are other posts with people having same problems as well, do a search and you will see.

You can run the game fine with both monitors running as I have no problem playing game on one and have something different on 2nd screen with no problems.

There are also some people who claim to be able to run with both with no problems but I am unsure. I think that maybe it is a driver issue so maybe with certain video cards, maybe older ones. Or that these people think or can live with the random crash here and there are ok.

I used to play this game back in gpg days with dual monitors with no problem that I can remember, but that was with my old graphics card that I don't have anymore. So who knows. I do get d3d errors which I didn't see in your logs so then again maybe this is not your problem..

Problem is that graphic cards & drivers were updated since FA release. Not FA itself.

So, to close the loop on this, disabling the second monitor seems to have done the trick. Pity, I loved having a mini map always available...
