Memory Leak? Perf degradation

Postby Anaryl » 15 Oct 2013, 01:55

Playing a game today I experienced some very severe PC side performance degradation, including my machine beeping at me a few times, and supcom experiencing second long lockups intermittently.

My specs are i7 - 3930k, 32gb RAM DDr3, Gigabyte ati 7970, intel 520 SSD (128gb) WD 3TB mech SATA HDD. Somehow, I doubted that FA was really grounding this machine as it's frankly pretty difficult to do.

Second FA Process doubling up on the memory and CPU side resources. I think this is referred to as a memory leak.

I don't see any "memory leak", but you shouldn't have two FAF running.

FAF is meant to use 600mb of memory?

Yes I know two processes aren't meant to be running.

I ended up doing a complete format and reinstall - if it pops up I'll post again.

It doesn't eat 600 but 300 mb in your screenshot. The problem is that you have 2 instances running, that shouldn't happens (because one should block ports that the second one needs, and fails to load).
But it can happens if the server was down and you've cancelled a login instead of waiting for the maintenance popup.

Having the equivalent of a browser with 4 tabs opened (what's new, map vault, livestream & leaderboard), there is nothing abnormal.

Also the perf degradation is unlikely a memory problem has only 20% of your memory is taken.

I don't think a reinstall was needed, there is really no problem with faf with what you are telling me :)

No, I think because of a lot of teething problems when I initially built the system, my copy of windows was well and truly fucked. A reinstall solved many many non-FAF related problems as well - so I'm just going to put it down to that.
