Regular Tournaments each week, organize Thread

Postby Zock » 12 Oct 2013, 15:06

The lack of torunaments in FAF is sad. We do need more. And not only that, we need regular tournaments, that people can plan ahead instead of the 1 day-before-start-anounce tournaments we have now (not that theese are bad or shouldn't continue, they are great, but they are not enough)

Some people might not know this, but there are no competetive teamplays. Even 4v4 with only good players are no way close to what we had in GPG with 2v2 and 3v3 games in matter of teamplay. Good player 2v2s aren't there at all. Do you want us FAF players to not be able to have what GPG had? I played them, and i can tell you, this teamgames were awesome, and i want to have such on FAF too.

I'm not a TD, and i don't plan to be one, but someone needs to demand theese tournaments, and demanding i can do. :D

I will try to organize this a bit though. All i need is each TD to do what they are loved for, and host tournaments. At set times, each week.

There will be two tournaments, one 1v1 and one 2v2.

1v1 will be Friday 18:00 GMT / 20:00 CEST / 14:00 EDT
2v2 will be Saturday 17:00 GMT / 19:00 CEST / 13:00 EDT

Rules:
(exceptions are possible, but should be avoided)
- Swiss Style
- standard "ranked" settings
- max game lenght 45 min real time for 1v1, 1 hour real time for 2v2
- Maps for 1v1 can be choosen from the Ladder Pool. For 2v2 see the list below. This is to bring some "routine" of maps into the tournements.
-Standard share rule for 2v2 is full share. If both teams agree you can play with no share though.
-2v2 will use following point system:
  • Win without losses: 4 Points
  • Win with one commander loss: 3 Points
  • Draw: 2 Points
  • Lose with 1 kill: 1 Point
  • Lose without kill: 0 Points
List:
Spoiler: show
Here is the Mappool for 2v2. I limited it to about 20 (24 now) maps, and split it 50/50 into official/custom. Also tried to get a good mix between open/closed and big/small maps.

Crossfire Canal
Daroza's Sanctuary
Eye of the Storm
Fields of Isis
Strip Mine
Four Leaf Clover
Haven Reef
Open Palms
Syrtis Major
Thawing Clacier
Vy3 Protectorate
Roanoke Abyss
8 Badlands
Aperture Laborities
Dry Canyon
Emerald Lake
John's Pass
Open Waters
Painted Desert
Scorpion Canyon
TAG_Craftious Maximus
The Drunken Pirates Dance
Theta Passage 5
Twin Rivers

Prices:
The highest placed player of each rating section will get:
-above 1800: Tournement Winner
-1200-1800: Place: Faction Face
-under 1200: Place: Faction Logo

additional Rewards:
-Tournament Participant Avatar for everyone who plays to the end
-Special Avatar for 10 completed weekly tournements
-Community voted "Winner of Hearts" Avatar
for the best performing Underdog, or best Fight

The tournaments will be hold each week. Even if only 4 people sign up. If possible, they should also get casted live, if not afterwards.

This thread is to discuss the settings and times, and to find the TD who will hold the next tournament, and if possible a backup TD, in case the normal TD don't show up. So if you are a TD, or want to be one, and you can be here next weekend, help to let FAF competetive play not die, and revive competetive teamgames on top. The same goes for a caster, if you have time at the weekend, sign up and let everyone know you will be there to cast them (live!). The TDs should be known one week ahead, to be able to create the tournement and give players 1 week time to sign up.

Now, discuss. And sign up to be the TD for next week or a later date. If you want to be, but don't know how, it's really easy, contact me or Voodoo for more details.

Some help for TDs:

How you vote the winner of hearts at the end of the tourny can you decide. I recommand using some poll website and link it to aeolus, or just tell people to pm you with their votes and count it.

At the 2v2 tourny, you must care at the start, because only 1 team member should sign up. This means:
You have to move the other players to the tournement channel (or ask a mod to do it)
You have to delete the people who didn't read that part, and signed up with 2 members instead of 1. :)

I wanted to try myself as TD starting next month (dont have much time now)
And i 200% support this, tournaments are great and we do need more of this stuff.

But looking at how WWPC series slowly kicked the bucket, i dont know what needs to be done to revive competitive team games spirit. And of course getting people together in set time is also the problem. I kinda unsure that we can pull it off with 2v2 tourney, as people seem to lose interest in this kind of games. I had an idea though, of making, say, 4 "trusted" teams that will surely participate in every tourney and then probably more players kick in.

Also pls clarify on time, i always fail to convert those CEST etc. time zones to GMT and end up getting wrong numbers

PS maybe a silly question, can you still participate in tourney you are directing?

Nice, but offtopic. :) I need people who can promise for next weekend, or the one after, or the one after that..etc.

It has two majors problems :

- You can't answer to question and be efficient at directing if you are playing.
- In case of an arbitrage problem involving you, you can't obviously be the judge of it.

So if you want to play, give to another TD the tournament.

Or have 2 TD's, then one can play while the other answers questions.

What is the difference with "giving the tournament to another TD" ? :)

No rule is against having several TDs in a single tournament, as long as none is playing AND endorse the TD jacket at the same time.

I was wondering about this myself. I joined FAF just as WWPC was dying. I would love for it to come back. Especially the 2v2.
Avantgarde: bug reports go to you [zep] via PM?
Ze_PilOt_: no
Ze_PilOt_: never.

Ze_PilOt: FA is not about being in a comfort zone all the time.
I think the game you want to play is Starcraft 2.

Since there were no other suggestions, i will set the times now official to

1v1 will be Friday 20:00 CEST / 14:00 EDT / 18:00 GMT
2v2 will be Saturday 19:00 CEST / 13:00 EDT / 17:00 GMT

If you have any better suggestions, you can still offer them, but at the earliest they will take place in the second tourny week.

ColonelSheppard agreed to host the 1v1 tournement on friday. Thanks a lot. :)

But there is still need of a Backup TD (You can play in the tourny if the normal TD shows up, its really just a Backup), aswell as TD's for Saturday.

If you don't want this to die before it started, you should apply before Tuesday evening
