Connecting to FAF with 2 Routers.

Ello, Been trying to fix this problem for a long time. ToejamS on the chat has tried his hand at fixing this problem, but has failed, and I was wondering who can help?

Whenever I try to connect to a game, It gets stuck at the 'Connecting' screen, and wont go any further. I have a Linksys Router, connected to a Telus Smart Hub (Which is where my internet comes from).

Port forwarding has been tried, with no success.

if the second is really a hub, it should cause no problems.
hubs do not route intenet traffic, they just send/recieve everything. and can't be configured.

Im not sure if its really a hub. But thats what its officially called a Smart Hub. So I guess its a hub... It just has 3G Capabilities, tis where the internet comes from.

He has a wifi router attached to a 3g router. Ive only just started studying networks and subnetting. I can see all sorts of issues with this if not configured 100% correctly. From memory ( which is hazey at best and just plain bad at worst ) I have a feeling that you may need to configure the subnet.

Im pretty sure that he is using the same mask on both routers. Broadcasting could also be seriously affected as well.

I could just be reading too much and got confused... actually... Im gonna say that I have read too much and have gotten confused.

Your gonna need a networking guru to sort that out I think.

Yeah if it really is a hub then its a whole different beast to a router. Is there any reason you have two gateways?

If I recall hubs just broadcast data rather than actually routing it, not many people use hubs any more, I would definitely say that could be your problem.

On the other hand you are using wifi, which isn't exactly renown for gaming performance.

I believe that you should try running a CAT5 to your internet gateway (not your subnet gateway) and see if that solves your problem.

A Cat5? You mean a Category 5 Cable? Ya, Dont have one. So that suggestion is uselss.

can u tell us how your internet gateway is setup and how is your pc gateway setup also what is pc ip setting.

+ do you have dhcp running on both routers?

cat 4,cat 5,cat 5e or cat 6 will do any ethernet cable will do
also make sure windows power options for your wifi card are set to max performance and not stupid power save

ok, first, can you access the 3g router from an IP address OTHER than the one your inner router has? e.g. inner router is usually 192.168.1.1, is the 3g router different? if any

Second, you said you did port forward already, but if the 3g router is indeed a router, did you ALSO port forward on that aswell? Forward to the inner router I mean (this can get a bit tricky)

Lastly, and this might not even apply AT ALL, but i recently fixed an issue i had via an option on my 'inner' router called 'Respond to ping on internet port', if you can find that option anywhere, make sure it's enabled.

IF any of this is just plain dumb, just ignore me, these are mostly just ideas i have.
