Graphics freeze at start up

Hi & thanks for you efforts in advance.

My problem:
When I host the game runs fine.

Otherwise, when I join other people's game the screen freezes on the zoomed out view at game start up.
Its as if the display freezes on the first frame rendered at the start scene. I can hear the Gate in and can also hear the (now invisible) mouse pointer passing over the menu.

It happens to me in FAF, PhantomX, and replays.

My graphics drivers were old, so I replaced them. No change.

Started happening after the latest round of patches.
