Steam Version and retail version

Hey all.

I have the retail version of the game (1.5.3596, patched to 1.5.3599), but a friend of mine who I wanted to get to play this bought the steam version, which is on 1.6.6. I tried googling for it, but found no answers. Is there any way to downgrade his version / play together? And please DON'T suggest downloading FAF / me upgrading. Thanks.

Not the bad place to ask then. (and by the way, it's the only solution).
