Range Rings and FPS

Postby IceDreamer » 15 Jun 2013, 16:58

My machine has an NVidia GFX card, and suffers from a massive FPS drop when I select units thanks to rendering the range rings. I just built a new family PC with an AMD card, and am noticing no such issue, and never HAVE noticed the issue with AMD cards, so I think this is an NVidia problem. I also know it has been seen by others before me. Does anyone know a way to nullify this, or know what is causing the drop? I'd like to play with rings on, but the hit is too great currently, so if anyone has a trick to stop this happening, I'd love to know :)

Don't buy a cheap GPU...
Other things you can consider is running a lower resolution, lower other settings, lower settings in the Nvidia control panel. Theres lots to be done to increase your performance; what NVidia card is it exactly?

It's a GTX 560M, and it runs SupCom without any other issues whatsoever. I get utterly solid 60FPS+ with all high and 4* Anti-Aliasing enabled, but FPS drops from that to <10FPS as soon as I select a large group of units with range rings enabled. I wouldn't be posting unless I had a real problem here, so don't give me the 'Idiot's got a crappy card' spiel.

I've tried putting all low and turning on and off settings in the NVidia control panel, all to no avail. On all low, FPS hits 140, but again selecting any number of units with range rings enabled drops it all the way down to 20-30FPS. I'm looking for NEW ideas to try.

Note ate SimSpeed is utterly unaffected.
